My Project
As a special educator it can be a challenge to motivate learners to read on their own as this is one of their greatest challenges. However, introducing fidgets like stress balls to release their anxiety and help with focus, and offering alternative seating for movement breaks to release extra energy, truly helps a learner extend their focus. My rug area was a 5x7 which, when the children would gather and start to wiggle just seemed to small, however, I will use this rug as a discovery area rug. The new rug I am asking my wonderful donors to consider helping me get will make our reading area larger and help me launch Flashlight Fridays, a special reading time where I will invite students to come and read by flashlight with a snack and earn token toward their monthly reading quota. It will be such fun, and if they don't want to sit on the rug, there are great stools Iv requested at counter height desks, or regular seats or yoga ball chairs and their are always fidgets.
