Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fabulous group of 1st graders are an energetic bunch that keep us on our toes. Many students in this grade level struggle with reading comprehension skills. This skill is a big focus in our grade level and something many parents struggle to help their children with at home, therefore a strong focus in school is needed.
It is a challenge to keep students entertained throughout the school day.
They absolutely love to participate in unique learning activities. What better way to emphasize reading skills than with Flashlight Friday's?
Our students will absolutely love to participate in this unique learning activity while building up their comprehension skills.
My Project
My students will enjoy using the flashlights on lanyards, mini keychain flashlights, and finger lights. as well as lots of batteries to keep the fun going! These materials will help first graders build their reading and comprehensions skills with a unique and fabulous flashlight activity. Students will be able to enjoy a dark, relaxed learning environment with a partner while reading a book.
Who would have thought Friday's in school could be so much fun?
This unusual learning activity will allow students to work on a very fundamental first-grade skill. When the lights go out and the flashlights are turned on, students will have an opportunity to strengthen their reading skills while working with classmates and even their teacher! These students will be having so much fun they probably won't realize they've been tricked and are actually learning while reading (I'm such a sneaky teacher!).
