Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have special needs like Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities and Speech and Language Impairments, among other disabilities. These students live in a tough area of South Los Angeles, where many are considered to come from very, low-income households.
My students enjoy coming to school and learning as much as they can.
They put forth effort in all of their school lessons and activities. They will benefit from any materials and supplies that we can get donated through this organization, DonorsChoose.
My Project
My students need a variety of modalities to learn concepts. In class, they have direct lessons on counting, knowing the value of and identifying coins. They also have the use of manipulatives. Other ways that my students use to practice counting money are worksheets for homework and flashcards. The toner ink and laminating sheets that I am requesting will allow me to make as many different flashcards about coins and counting so that my students can play games like, memory, identifying and flashing numbers and coins to know the attributes of money and counting. The toner ink will also allow me to print money related worksheets for homework and small group work.
The laminating pouches will allow me to laminate the flashcards so that they have durability and can be used many times.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
