Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income, working-class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles' low-income housing complexes.
My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you will ever meet.
They are smart, enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them. They love to come to school to absorb as much knowledge as possible to help them prepare for their future.
My Project
My students need a variety of modalities to learn concepts. In class, they have direct lessons on counting, knowing the value of and identifying coins. They also have the use of manipulatives and computers to explore math websites. There are two other ways that my students can use to practice counting money, which are worksheets for homework and flashcards. The color ink cartridges that I am requesting will allow me to print different flashcards about coins and counting so that my students can play games like, memory, identifying and flashing numbers and coins to know the attributes of money and counting. It will also allow me to print money related worksheets for homework and small group work.
