My Students

My classroom is filled with curiosity, inquiry, creativity and interest in all things science. Many of my students are college-bound, many are not, but they are all hungry for exposure to something new and relevant, and are excited to learn! Students in my classes are mainly freshmen and sophomores and come from a variety of backgrounds, but all are from urban neighborhoods. Ninety-two percent of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

Our school is a community, a truly inspirational environment where all students can express themselves, and be themselves.

Our discipline is positive, restorative and community-based. School is a happy place to be, and possibly the best place for many of the students to be every day.

My Project

Here at Fitz we are all about hands on opportunities for learning! An urban garden will help bring hands on learning to many students, and give opportunities to learn healthier food choices and see how our food is grown. These supplies will facilitate the planting and maintenance of our new garden.

The garden will be a learning garden as well as a place to enjoy nature, the outdoors, and participate in providing food for our students.

Many people are touched everyday by our food service program and our students are eager to contribute by growing some of the food, earning community service and learning new skills at the same time.
