Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a small public charter school in New Mexico. Our school strives to provide students with the experiences they will need to go on to be successful after high school either in college, the military, or their chosen career. It is important for them to know what it takes to compete with the best students, not just here in New Mexico, but across the country. The goal is to provide outstanding learning experiences which engage, challenge and inspire each individual to achieve excellence. In Physical Education, these goals are met by focusing on lifetime fitness activities that center on overall health.
My Project
My students want to work out and get stronger! They also are very tech savvy and want to incorporate the two - fitness and technology.
Volt Athletics is an app based workout program that progresses the student as he/she works out more and more to increase their fitness.
Volt Athletics works by allowing the teacher to create specific programs for different groups of students. The program is then transferred to the student's smartphone, tablet or laptop for them to use in the weight room. The workouts are shown to them with descriptions and videos of how to perform the exercise. Students then input what they accomplished (how much weight they lifted) and finally the program adapts and adjusts future workouts based on student input. The program is also available to the student at all times, including weekends and holidays so they can continue to workout and get fitter.
As a teacher, this program will allow each student to get customized workouts. Volt also provides feedback, in the form of tracking, leader-boards and reports for each completed workout.
Overall, Volt Athletics will take our fitness training into the 21st Century, providing students customized workouts while allowing the teacher less time developing programs and more time encouraging, checking and improving form and tracking progress.
