My students need a variety of play materials such as a croquet set and scooter boards. This will help with their social skills, language, and motor development. We will learn so much through play.
My students are bright preschoolers and kindergartners with special needs. They are three to five years old with different disabilities including Autism, speech or language impairment, health impairment, Cerebral Palsy, and intellectual disability.
My students are from low-income families and almost all are English language learners.
Some have just arrived in the United States from Mexico with parents who do not speak English. Despite the many challenges they face, they come ready each day to work and play with the most positive attitudes.
It has been a true blessing to watch my students learn and grow. Their determination and eagerness to learn are what fuels me. These young scholars amaze me every single day with their big hearts! A day in our classroom consists of enthusiasm, energy, and excitement. Every accomplishment, big or small, is celebrated!
My Project
My students are preschoolers full of energy! Young children are naturally active; they love to move, run, kick, throw, and play. While there are demands on them to sit and complete various tasks at the table, it is equally important they get enough movement and physical activity as well.
Children whose early childhood is based in movement develop healthier social, cognitive, and emotional skills.
Incorporating physical fitness in our daily lesson plan is so important! I want my students to have the opportunity to have fun through active play. The materials in this project will get my students moving and learning!
My project will provide us with new materials for outdoor play. We are halfway through the school year and it’s time to switch things up to keep my students engaged and participating! The croquet set will help my students learn turn-taking as they play together. They will have fun on scooter boards while working on their balance and coordination. Toys such as interlocking sticks and play foam will be available at the table so they can develop fine motor skills too!
All these materials will assist greatly in the development of my students' gross motors skills, language, and social skills. I hope they enjoy these new materials and develop a love for sports!
