Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Along with our students' diverse cultural differences, there is one commonality, they have enormous and boundless energy! Play comes naturally to them, is universal and ignites behavioral, psychomotor and social skills. My focus is to rebuild resilience, stamina and rigor into physical education classes for all student's, but especially for student's returning to school after a year of distance learning at home during COVID.

My students excel in a gymatorium half the size of a basketball court, and excitedly participate in fitness activities that increase their muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility.

Let's face it, children invent the most creative games in unique and exciting ways, and manage to use the space available to them with kind and generous hearts. Students can not wait to experiment with various types of manipulatives, balls and jump ropes, and love to engage their love of science to imagine wonderful opportunities in play. I am overjoyed learning from my students each day, because they are truly an integral piece of the learning process in class!

My Project

Students in this project are learning to value physical activity for challenge, enjoyment, self-expression and/or social interaction. Learning manipulative skills and locomotion skills help students recognize that physical activity is important for good health and fitness. Over the past school year many children missed out on the opportunity to move, play and create; as well as to build relationships with their peers that occur naturally during "play".

Picturing children balancing balloons on top of a tube, striking a balloon with a tube, catching and throwing a beachball, traveling while keeping their balloon off the floor using various locomotor movements, using a stop watch to time their movements, and then creating games with the equipment will be awesome!

Fitnation at it's best. Students taking ownership of building fitness during "play". Most importantly building relationships, a crucial part of their learning that was missing last school year! Our class will put together a little book of Fitnation games to share with their peers!
