This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fluidity is the best description for my Personal Fitness classroom. We are all moving toward better fitness for our brains and our bodies while acquiring knowledge about health and fitness. Our biggest challenge is providing enough positive choices for movement in our Fitness Room.

My students are mostly 9th graders in a large suburban school.

Many of these students have never used a fitness room or have never had guidance in safe exercise. They tend to exercise very little because they are not familiar with other choices. Once exposed to our Fitness Center they become very motivated! Since lifetime fitness is our goal, the games that they are exposed to may influence their fitness choices in the future.

My Project

The Wii console will allow the students to chose a video game that involves movement. The options are sports, dance, and recreational games. This is a comfortable, safe, motivating format that many of the can relate to. They are entertained while getting fit! It is a great way to learn that you can raise your heart rate, improve your health and have fun while doing it!

Sometimes it is the small things that make a big difference.

If a student does not enjoy the activity required to obtain fitness they will resist. If they can be motivated by something they enjoy they are more likely to use this in their everyday life now and later on in their life. Our goal is lifetime fitness!
