Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Water and sand are great motivators for the children to learn.
I want the children to be excited about learning their letters and numbers, and at the same time learn about some ocean animals. The advantages of water and sand activities are that it will fill in the gaps for some students who have not yet experience going to the beach, it will give them hands-on learning year round, and they will have fun learning to recognize their numbers, letters, and ocean animals. Some of the families in our attendance area lack financial resources to provide their children with a trip to the beach.
I want to provide the students with the needed activities that will build prior knowledge for future learning such as our "Ocean Animals" theme. The students will use the portable water and sand activities during the whole school year. Kindergarten students will enjoy playing in the sand and water because it will reinforce what they have already learned with the paper and pencil activities. We would like portable water/sand tubs, magnetic letters, numbers, ducks, ocean animals, and fishing gear.
