Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is fundamental and having good literature books is a necessity. My class set up a challenge to read at least five novels as part of our literature circles on Friday. We are close to our goal, but we have one more novel to go!

I have a classroom full of energetic fourth graders who are eager to learn.

We are part of a large metropolitan school district. My class is ethnically diverse. Our school has a large population of students who have various disabilities.

My Project

In order for my students to be exposed to good literature, I am requesting the novel Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This novel will help my students to be empathetic and maybe see themselves in the characters in the novel.

Today, many students face challenges that they do not necessarily want to expose to their classmates, however by reading this particular novel, the students will see that it is okay to be yourself, and defend others when they are not just like everybody else.

By reading this novel, students should be empowered to be responsible, be respectful, and citizens of our community.
