Fish and Plants: Classroom Buddies

Help me give my students a hydrophonic fish tank and growing system to help them learn about plant and animal life cycles, and how to care for living things.

My Project

I am a first-year teacher at a Title I school, about to move into teaching STEAM, to students in kindergarten-6th grade. We work hard to provide our students a stable, caring environment where each student knows they are loved.

I want to bring life into our classroom.

Caring for the fish and plants would help our students in many ways. They could learn, firsthand, about life cycles and the environment, including where our food comes from.

The fish, in particular, would benefit our students socioemotionally. It would help them learn to self-regulate, as fish have a calming presence. It would also bring joy to our class.
