Fish Anatomy Inquiry

My students need 11 different materials to better learn and understand the internal and external anatomy of fish.

My Students

Many people are able to go fishing and some are lucky enough to catch a fish! For those that do get lucky, when they are cleaning the fish in preparation for eating, many students do not know the anatomy of the fish they are cleaning.

My school is a fully operational public high school with a current population of 872 students and 82 faculty members.

The ethnic make up of our school is diverse; the four predominant groups are Part Hawaiian, Filipino, Caucasian, and Asian. The general socioeconomic status of the community drops below the indicators found throughout Hawaii’i with the median household income being $32,334. In comparison with the rest of the state, our community has a lower percentage of the population both without a high school degree and without a college degree. Sixty-five percent of our student population receives free or reduced lunch.

My Project

With the resources that we are seeking, students will be able to understand internal and external anatomy of fish. The animal kingdom kit will help students to understand taxonomy. The raised relief poster, sharks teeth, disecting fish, and dissection kits will provide students with a hands on experience with internal anatomy. And, the gyotaku/ fish print kits will show and print fish external anatomy.

With a donation to this project, you will be providing underprivileged students the opportunity to learn about internal and external anatomy with a hands-on experience taught through an open ended inquiry approach.
