Hi There! I am a first grade teacher in Detroit, Michigan and I have a rambunctious group of twenty six, 1st grade scholars who light up my world each and every day. I call them my Fabulous Firsties and our classroom is our little home and we love each other like family when we are there. These children are fun and vibrant and have given me lots of love, great laughs, and stories to last a lifetime.
My awesome scholars love coming to school each day in spite of the challenges and circumstances that some of them experience daily in their home lives.
They are tiny but fiercely resilient. I learn so much from them each day and I simply want to return the favor by teaching the EVERYTHING they need know to be successful in their future endeavors.
The scholars in this demographic are severely low in reading but they love technology. They are expected to reach a certain level by the end of the year with limited resources and short window of time. I want to submerge my students in literacy in every way possible. These tablets will expose the students to more literature than they could access otherwise and keep them engaged longer than standard text.
Listening to reading allows students to hear what fluent readers sound like.
It will also teach them how to read fluently and with expression independently. During small group reading lessons, I can focus on the needs of my students and have others independently reading books, listening to reading, working on writing or working with peers. Our classroom would greatly benefit from this donation and would be eternally grateful.
