My incoming group of firsties this year are energetic and fun-loving kids! They are curious, creative and compassionate. They love having engaging, hands-on activities where they also have choices in their learning!
Each new first grader that enters my classroom loves to learn and are very capable, but the way they learn varies greatly.
We are a diverse school in many ways and every child brings something different to our classroom. Little first grade minds are ever-changing and it is so much fun to see how much they grow from the start to the end of the year!
The school I teach at is actually my old elementary school! Every child and experience here is so near and dear to my heart because of my wonderful childhood memories of elementary school. I want to be able to help create new and long- standing memories for all of my students.
My Project
I can already visualize the seating choices I have chosen for my kiddos in our first grade classroom! The short rectangular table will have the soft seats around it to make our learning environment more cozy. The floor seats will be stored away when not in use, but will be readily available if a student prefers to read in them! First graders are wiggle worms with lots of good ideas bursting out of them! We just need your help getting these flexible seating choices for our classroom.
I know as an adult, I like having the option of where I'd like to sit in order to do my best work or learning!
I'd love to provide my students the same choice. Currently, the choices I have in my classroom are traditional desks (which some students are fine working in), working on a carpet with a clipboard or working at a reading table with an office for more privacy during independent work time. The flexible seating options I have selected will help the students take ownership in their learning and really help them feel comfortable to show what they know!
