This is going to be my first year as a classroom teacher, and it feels like a dream come true!
Our school encourages students to learn through hands-on activities and play.
I have yet to meet my group of first graders since school has not started yet, but our school has a diverse range of learners. My class will have about 27 students based on current enrollment, but it’s predicted to grow as the first day of school approaches.
When school begins, we will work on building community and celebrating each student’s unique differences they bring into the classroom.
My Project
As a first-year teacher in a classroom with little storage space, basic classroom supplies will be very helpful in creating an organized and positive learning environment for my students. The baskets will be used to keep and organize items in their cubbies, and caddies will hold supplies such as pencils, scissors, and crayons for tablemates to share. Having access to clipboards will allow students to work at a place of their choice, and they won't be stuck working at desks if they are able to work better elsewhere. Also, having sitspots to mark where students need to be sitting on the carpet will provide more structure and support my management during carpet time.
Your donations to this project will not only create a positive environment but will also support student excitement and academic achievement.
Students love to learn in various ways other than the traditional paper and pencil. By allowing them to show their thinking through dry erase pouches, they will be excited to learn and practice, while allowing me to see their progress. These pouches will be used differently compared to traditional individual whiteboards since I could put in specific worksheets or skills individual students need to be working on and differentiate for each student. Also, pocket charts for math will greatly help develop place value knowledge by allowing our class to practice counting, as well as play a game to “build” the hundreds chart branching out from a single number and explain how we know where certain numbers go. Similarly, pocket charts for reading will develop students’ knowledge of building sentences, practicing sight words, and learning vocabulary.
Your help with these classroom basics will truly make a world of difference in my first-grade students. Thank you!
