First Year Teacher Supplies

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first year teacher it is vital to make my classroom inviting, organized, and well managed to make students feel at ease and comfortable to learn. We need posters to encourage us to do our best and be helpful reminders. We need books to grow/stretch our brain and hearts. We need supplies like crayons, markers, and pencils to do the work effectively.

Being a first year teacher involves working with the students and allowing them some choices; I think when students have the ability to choose they take some power into their own hands and makes them feel more in control, respected, and feel comfortable.

I want to be able to give students the supplies they need for the school year. Working in a title one school can be difficult but so rewarding. I want the kids to be able to get their school supplies and make decisions on what they need to be able to learn and be able to succeed. I want to be able to give the space and materials to succeed but create a fun classroom that makes them want to come to school and learn. I also want to implement American Sign Language into the classroom to give students another way to communicate.

These are not the only students I will teach but they will be my first and they will set a precedent. We will be working as a team to teach each other. To show each other the ropes and how to survive third grade together on this journey. We will work hard to create this classroom and in order to be successful these supplies will help us make it one step easier. To an amazing year and terrific students.
