Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year has been both amazing and challenging. I co-teach in a 1st grade ICT classroom as the general education teacher in an elementary school in the Bronx. I have 25 students with various learning styles. My students are friendly, funny and just great kids.
My students are currently struggling with reading and writing, but they always seem eager to learn and get better.
These kids are amazing leaders, and I look forward to helping them the best way I can and see them grow.
My Project
As I stated above my students are struggling in reading and writing. The items that I am requesting in my cart will be used to better support myself as a teacher. As a first-year teacher I want to be able to teach effectively and efficiently. I looked for resources written by amazing teachers around the country that made a difference in their classrooms. These teachers tried different things in their classrooms and have also worked in classrooms around the country.
I want to see change and growth in my student's reading levels and writing skills.
For example, "The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading" book will be a great tool to use when I implement guided reading with my students. I will be able to use the strategies learned and apply it to the daily group lessons with my students. The "Writing and Reading Strategies Book" will be used as a resource to refer to when planning reading and writing lessons and thinking of activities that are both fun and challenging.
Since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a teacher. I am finally living my dream. There are support systems at my school but not enough for each teacher. So this project will serve as my own support system that I can refer to on my own time throughout the school year.
