Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing 4 year olds from the US and Mexico. Most are Spanish speaking or bilingual students. Our classroom is a bilingual prekindergarten class located on the Texas/ Mexico border in what has been ranked the " Poorest city in America", but that is not what you will find in this class. You will find students who are eager to learn and excited for their first year of schooling .
We take pride in creating an environment that gets students excited for learning to create a strong starting point to becoming lifelong learners.
These students are sponges for learning and come in every day with the willingness and determination to learn and succeed.
My Project
Early STEM activity exposure is a fundamental part of my classroom. As the world around us seems more STEM driven than ever before, I have tried providing ways for my students to have more opportunities; however, because Brownsville is the poorest city in the United States, there is a lack of resources available to us. I would like to ensure the best possible resources available to my young learners.
The Bridge Building Engineering Center, Design and Play Steam Cars and other building sets I am requesting, will help ensure that my students’ first year in school is full of exposure to the best resources and activities to begin their STEM journey.
I have chosen resources that my students have shown interest in. I want to be sure I can make the biggest impact with these resources. This project will help ensure exposure in the latest educational advances in the STEM field.
Exposure to STEM resources at an early age will enable a strong foundation in STEM related areas that will benefit cognitive, creative, and educational growth now, and well into their futures. Without the exposure here in my class, many of these students will not have another opportunity to be exposed to such a variety of STEM resources and activities. Help me give my pre-kindergarten class a strong chance at a competitive future.
