it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you know what it's like not being able to communicate effectively with your peers in elementary school? My students face these challenges every day. Help them achieve their speech and language goals so they can benefit in the classroom and daily life!
Many of the students I service are having difficulty grasping concepts that are typically developed at their age level.
Consequently, they suffer academically and sometimes even socially because they are picked on. Many students come from households where they are only exposed to languages other than English. Some of these students then suffer when trying to communicate with classmates and teachers because they can't understand basic concepts or even sounds.
The school is in an high need area. According to a comprehensive information report, 71-80% of students and families at this school require financial public assistance. The students could really use your help in receiving materials they would not normally be exposed to!
My Project
Many of the cards I requested will allow my students to learn in an interactive way because I will incorporate these materials into a sort of game for the kids to enjoy while learning. The "Jumbo Mouth" puppet will help students with articulation difficulties visualize where they should put their tongue when articulating certain sounds. The Common Core related materials will aid students in their classroom and help them in eventually becoming career and college ready. When working on following directions that are orally presented, it is important for the students to develop strategies in the therapy room that they can generalize in the classroom. For following directions activities, I requested crayons so the students can follow directions such as "take the yellow crayon and color the duck in the pond." This type of activity focuses not only on auditory processing, but also vocabulary and prepositional concepts that are essential in the early elementary school years.
Donations will make a HUGE impact on my students!
Not only will these materials help my students achieve their goals, but this can be a FUN and extremely MOTIVATIONAL way for them to work hard! Many of these materials can be adapted throughout all of the grade levels from Pre-K-3rd grade and would make a huge difference on these children!
