I am a fourth grade teacher at a school in the heart of Baltimore City. This school is a Title I school that supports a diverse group of students. Students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds with many needs being present. My students are excited to learn and challenge themselves every day. To adequately serve my students, I want to be able to offer them a home away from home. As a first year teacher, I need support in making this dream a reality.
I serve low income students and families whose needs range from behavioral and emotional support, to children with disabilities, and even those who come from low income families.
Many of my students come from backgrounds or families who do not put a large emphasis on education or school. My goal is to instill the values of education and determination into every student that I teach in order to set them up for long-term success.
Instilling a love of reading at a young age is crucial for creating life-long readers. Book bins for our class will allow students to keep books on their level and books that pertain to students' personal interests. This system will help foster a love of reading.
As a first year teacher, these supplies are crucial to making an effective classroom where every child will succeed and be comfortable.
A classroom set of both personal white boards and clipboards will allow us to work independently, as a group, and with flexible seating so that every student can learn in a way that they prefer and relate to.
