My students need All the requested items in daily activities. Sensory items will be used for breaks and cool-down activities of over stimulated. Most all communication is lamminated and made into a book.
The students in my class have severe disabilities requiring them to need more than a typical student to achieve their highest potential. This can range from low tech devices, larger pencils, a chair band for them to fidget their feet on all the way to high tech devices used for communication. Nearly all my students have alternative communication devices, either using a picture exchange or an app provided on a tablet or iPad. Most using a picture exchange means card stock and lamination to keep them in good condition and mobile!
All of the resources requested will be used on a regular basis, the Trubind will be used to make books for my students. We use social stories for learning how to act and react to new lessons and situations my students may be faced with. I try to make sure these social stories are directly linked to the student and the individual task, this means I mostly make them myself. Having an easier and more durable way to bind the books will not only make them more accessible, but also last a lot longer! This is also where some of the lamination will be used.
Most of my students are nonverbal and use other means of communication, such as the scheduling boards and PEC sets.
I have used PECs from google images, but can never seem to find a pack that will all have the same format. It is important for the PECs to be similar to reduce confusion.
All of the sensory items will be used daily, the swing and hanger will be used in the cool down corner where students go to relax if ever over stimulated. It hugs their bodies and helps to calm them when they cannot on their own.
All of the requested items will help my students in many ways. Some of these children come to school with very little and sending home a list of items is not an option because there is a list already provided by the county and they are all things my students will either need to be adapted so I have purchased most of the essentials out of pocket. I look forward to assisting my students in achieving their goals with your help!
