This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher in a high-needs school, I’m building a classroom from scratch, but not just any classroom. I’m creating a space where my vibrant, curious 6th graders can feel safe, seen, included, and inspired. My students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, yet they arrive each day filled with potential and eager to learn. We need essentials like pencils, paper, and art supplies. We also need the little things that go a long way: stickers that make them smile and stress balls to ease frustration. We need some organizational tools like a utility cart, storage bins, and a turn in tray. I also added some other classroom essentials that will be able to be reused throughout the years such as a wall calendar, dual use dry erase clipboards, calculators, and timers/clocks to help students stay on track, and other organizational wall charts.
