FIRST We Submerge And Then We EXPLORE

Help me give my students LEGO Spike Essential Kits, books, and puzzles on the ocean to use with the FIRST LEGO League Explore "submerged" program.

My Project

I teach technology to grades K-8. I am trained in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore program for grades 2-4. This year's theme was submerged, all about our oceans.

I would like to get additional LEGO Spike Essential kits, plus puzzles and books about the oceans for students to learn in a fun and engaging way.

The program focuses on real-world problems and asks the students to solve the problem using LEGOs. Then they have to automate the model using computer code and various motors and sensors that plug into a hub. There is only one hub (battery) per kit, so it is difficult for students to build a model, test it, refine it, and then repeat this process if they have to share a hub with other students.

I want to build our inventory of kits so that groups can be more than 2 students per group. This curriculum is a fun and easy way to show students that coding and engineering can be fun and to not be afraid to try.

They love hands-on activities and problem-solving, so these kits will be "essential" in exposing kids to fields of study that they might not have considered otherwise.
