Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of young people who are passionate about learning. They are eager to explore new things, and eager to embark on new experiences. They are going to learn Chinese Calligraphy!
In my class, students learn the Chinese language as well as the Chinese culture.
When we learn writing, students would ask me about Chinese people writing with brushes instead of pens and pencils. Since Chinese Calligraphy is such an important aspect of Chinese writing art, I am planning to integrate it into my teaching.
My Project
Language students learn the target language. It is also vital for them to learn about the culture, arts and many other aspects of life of the native language speakers. Technology makes it possible for students to access this information online via multimedia. However as far as learning is concerned, what could be more effective than rolling up your sleeves (literally) and experiencing it first hand? I am teaching Chinese 1, Chinese 2, Chinese 3, and AP Chinese. The objective of this project is to show students that Chinese calligraphy has evolved from daily writing need to a form of art. They will also make their hands dirty (literally) trying at it. The ultimate goal of the project is to make students proud of themselves when they look at what they can make!
