Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of the students I support are on the autism spectrum and have intense sensory needs. Theses needs are often barriers to learning in the educational environment. Providing tools that meet the needs of oral stimulation, vestibular input and deep pressure provide a calming effect to allow them to benefit from the learning taking place in the classroom. We meet the students where they are and teach them how to recognize what their bodies need to be ready to learn. Challenges with overstimulation and inattentiveness can be decreased by utilizing the supports on a daily basis. Providing multiple sensory items allows them to have a choice and a voice to help them become independent in self regulation skills as they navigate their world.
