FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Team Wants Nicely Labeled Wires
My students need Brady Printer Cartridge Tape in various sizes in order to label the toolboxes, electronics, and projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an incredibly diverse population. They come from many different cultures and backgrounds. I have many students that have a primary language other than English.
Many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch; this allows them to have free or reduced cost breakfast as well, but they are not able to actually get to school early enough every day to utilize this opportunity.
They work incredibly hard and are very attentive. Most of my students are preparing for college, some directly for career, and a few for the military.
We are trying to create a community of tolerance, acceptance, and compassion within our school and our teams/clubs. The school is so incredibly diverse (Religion, Ethnicity, Socio-economic, Single Parent Homes, Grandparent Homes, etc.), with many immigrants.
We have many of these immigrant families as part of our robotics and STEM programs and we try to create a new family for them within our town. We work diligently with these young people, many of whom are English Language Learners [ELL] and have left all of their friends at home to come here to the U.S. to start a new life. I am a mentor for our robotics team.
My Project
Our FIRST Robotics team builds a 4 ft, 120 lb robot to perform the new task given to us at the FIRST PowerUp kick-off in January. We will learn about the game, create a strategy, and start building our robot.
Our robot uses an electrical board with speed controllers that send signals to our motors about how fast and in what direction we want them to go; our robot usually has over 100 wires and we need to make sure each wire is labeled properly.
Every motor has a minimum of 4 different wires that go in and out of the motor controller, not including rotary encoder wires, sensor wires, LED wires, and pneumatic control wires. We also have power wires for our camera, lights, raspberry pi, and radio. So many wires and we need a great way to keep them organized. We call this "trimming the wires".
In order to accomplish this, we need various sizes of label tape for our Brady Label Maker. The most common type we use is the black ink on white polyester, in the 3/8th size. We also need 1/2" and 3/4" sizes for a few of the labels. Finally, we also build a custom button box, which needs the black on clear tape 3/8" labels.
This entire program is completed afterschool. They are learning fabrication, wiring, and electrical skills to complete these tasks. They do this at an offsite facility and have engineers work with them to complete their individual assignments.
