I teach very active and vivacious first graders! Just like any 6 or 7 year olds, they thrive in a learning environment where learning can be fun and connected to materials they are familiar with.
I work at a low poverty school, where 81% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
Many of the students look to school as their comfort zone and are more ready to learn when they have what they need to be successful.
At our school, we not only teach students academics we teach them life long skills. To help teach life skills we became a Leader in Me school.
Our school has been working hard to provide enough technology for the whole student body. Recently, we have gotten technology such as Promethean Boards and a few more laptop carts. While the Promethean Board is a great addition to our classroom, the laptop carts travel from classroom to classroom resulting in very limited time that students get to use them. I would like to provide Chromebooks for my students that they will be able to use daily.
We would be able to enhance not only regular curriculum but small group instruction with the Chromebooks.
Students today are very comfortable with technology in many aspects. Having the Chromebooks will help students relate more to their lessons. With standardized testing turning towards technology, having Chromebooks will allow students have less testing anxiety.
In our classroom we will use Chromebooks to strengthen regular curriculum and boost small group instruction. Chromebooks will help students to access educational websites such Compass Learning, abcya.com, turtlediaries.com, etc. Students will also use the Chromebooks to test. Help us get our technology adventure started!
