Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of first graders who need to develop an appreciation for both ELA and math. It is my goal to help them foster that love and appreciation!
Students at my school all come from low-income/poverty stricken families.
My school also services two shelters- so many students are coming from that environment, as well. My students are excited first graders, ready to tackle what comes at them. However, most of my students go home to parents who don't speak English and work full time, therefore they aren't able to help or support their children with their academics. I believe it is my job to help my students foster a love and appreciation for ELA and math, so they can become successful students and successful individuals in today's society.
My Project
Students in my class will be using these materials every day! With engaging learning centers, students will be able to develop a love of reading, writing, and math through the use of hands-on materials. My students all love to get creative and do hands-on activities; however, we lack the materials to do so. With these engaging learning centers, my students will be able to learn through hands-on experiences. Students will also be exposed to colorful laminated charts so they are able to refer back to previously taught lessons. Laminated worksheets will create additional hands-on learning centers within our classroom!
This project will make a difference to my students because these materials will help to improve my classroom greatly.
These materials will create more hands-on experiences, which will allow my students the opportunity to learn numbers, how to build sentences, and how to use punctuation and capitalization properly, in accordance with the Common Core Learning Standards.
