Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a school where many of my students come from families that are economically disadvantaged. Our school is considered high-poverty, and approximately 70% of our students receive free lunch.

I teach 18 students who come from so many different backgrounds, but who all have one thing in common: a desire to learn and play!

The students that come to me every day are silly, smart, and curious about the world around them! They take pride in everything they do, and there is nothing quite like experiencing the world through their eyes.

My Project

My students are pretty amazing independent learners! At 6 years old, they have learned how to independently move throughout centers, are completely in charge of their technology station, and take care of our classroom supplies. I asked my class what they thought we needed in our room, and they decided that they really need an iPad charging station!

I try to give my students lots of opportunities to be successful by setting routines and allowing them to take ownership of their learning, and that shows when they successfully navigate the classroom and materials.

My students are in charge of the iPads, and are constantly having a hard time getting them all charged as we were only allotted 2 chargers (for 6 iPads). In addition, we do not have enough plugs to handle the amount of iPads we have, so we often have to plug the iPads into a power strip. The addition of this iPad station and chargers would mean that my students would have a station that could always be organized neatly, with enough cords to keep everything organized. It would also mean that the headphones would all have a neat place to be stored, which would prevent the breakage that keeps happening. My students will be so grateful to have everything organized a little bit easier and more neatly!
