First Graders Can Protect Themselves Through Individual Storage Options
Help me give my students the opportunity to return to school prepared, but most of all safe with individualized seat storage sacks and C- line storage boxes.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
ADLS is home to the most curious and dynamic set of first graders. Although they have little bodies, they sure do carry enormous dreams and aspirations. They are optimistic little human beings that are always ready to explore and begin a new adventure everyday. They are fearless and persistent which makes learning so much easier and a lot of fun. The added bonus of learning in two languages keeps my first graders on their toes. They consistently challenge themselves to stick to the language of the day and thus impress themselves and everyone around them as their acquired language skills flourishes.
Our first graders are very aware of who they are and what they want to become.
They are risk takers with the wildest of imaginations that allows teachers such as myself to push past standard based boundaries, and provide them with the knowledge that they so eagerly seek. I am very lucky to be part of the first grade team, but what I am most proud of is being able to facilitate these beautiful little minds in exploring their full potential, and being able to carry their awesome personalities into the next grade.
My Project
Staying safe is the number one priority for any classroom teacher especially in a first grade setting. I have come to grips with the notion that items such as books, pencils, erasers, glue sticks and scissors cannot be shared in the communal environment I was taught to encourage students in due to Covid-19. My students need individualized storage options such as large seat sacks to place their folders and whiteboards, large storage bags to place their independent books in both English and Spanish. They also need these large storage bags to place their individualized math manipulatives. They need storage containers to store the tools they need to enable them to feel confident that they have the resources they need for each lesson at their fingertips without the fear of Covid-19 hovering over their shoulders.
First grade is all about independence, and this is a great way to nurture that independence by giving first graders the opportunity to take ownership of their learning environment.
Through individualized storage options such as the ones that I am requesting it will boost my little ones’ confidence to embrace their new blended learning environment and to flourish as learners. These basic resources which are now essential items will ensure that they will be equipped with the individual tools necessary to successfully get the most out of each lesson. Maintaining a proper safety protocol and ensuring a fun and productive environment can exist in a first grade classroom especially if they have the right organizational tools to assist them.
