First Graders Are So Smart!

My students need wooden blocks, such as vehicles, traffic signs, and people, and a block storage cabinet with storage bins to keep them.

My Students

My first graders love to play and I believe play is so important at this age. I donated my own son's wooden blocks to my classroom when my son grew up and the children really enjoy them. I thought that having themed wooden blocks to go with the set would make the play even more fun.

I teach 22 wonderfully diverse first graders in an urban setting.

Our diversity ranges from ethnic to economic to family diversity. We teach acceptance and learn in a peaceful environment. Our school is an inclusion school. That means every class serves children with special needs.

My Project

I am asking for a wooden shelf to store the wooden blocks that are already in my classroom. The blocks are currently in a plastic tub and the kids have a hard time getting at them. I am also asking for a multicultural family set of wooden toys. These families reflect the diversity of my classroom and there are a total of 32 different figures. I am also asking for community member wooden figure set which include librarian, construction worker, shopkeeper, etc. I also asked for street sign set and 12 wooden cars. There is also a set of wooden store front set and wooden house set. All these pieces will create a world for the students to play with when we have free play time. I call our play time 'choice time'. The kids get to play at the end of the day for 25 minutes. They will play with the blocks on the large rectangular rug in the class.

Can you imagine the amazing play the children will have with this wooden world?
