First Grade Writers and More

My students need 30 Writing Journals, a pencil sharpener, and pencils to learn how to use correct writing conventions. My students need a set of 30 leveled books and a Kevin Henkes Author Study set for their classroom library.

My Students

A typical day in a first grade class is filled with remarkable learning moments. First graders are curious, inquisitive, and eager to learn. The progress made in a 180 day school year is unbelievable. With so much potential, my goal as a teacher is to push my students are far as I can!

My students are from an urban school district where most of the students live below the poverty line.

Even though our school tries very hard to provide us with the materials we need, we usually don't have all the materials that would be beneficial for first graders.

My Project

These writing journals will help my students grow in leaps and bounds! We usually end up making journals with lined paper and construction paper. However, with these high quality journals, my students will be able to learn basic writing conventions, neatly write in their journals daily, and the journals will last them the whole year. With the 30 new books and Kevin Henkes Author Study Set, my students will be able to improve their reading fluency by reading at their own individual level. Name tags, pencils, and a pencil sharpener are basic needs of every classroom that makes the classroom environment appropriate for a first grader.

Providing these children with a journal is providing them the opportunity to learn, express, and create.

By the end of the year, the progress shown in these journals will be remarkable! By providing these children with books, that so many of them don't have at home, you will help them become a life long reader. Please help our class... we will forever be grateful!
