This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In many urban communities, students are not supplied with the same tools, materials, or opportunities found in more affluent areas. My students are growing to be lifelong learners, and they are in need of resources to help them learn about the ocean and make an impact on their service learning project. At our school, our students have learned that they have the power to "write the future" and become civic-minded leaders.

My students are excited to raise awareness about ocean pollution and learn all about how they can make an impact in their community.

They are excited to find out so much more about a place they love to visit and how they can help make it better!

My Project

First grade has decided that they want to take on the task of learning and educating others about pollution in our oceans and on our beaches. In order to do that, we need as much information as we can get in order to better inform ourselves and others.

Service learning is an important part of building civic-minded leadership and we are taking on the task of helping promote a cleaner earth, starting right here on our very own beaches!

I Love a Clean San Diego is going to come into our classroom and help continue to build our knowledge of marine debris and beach pollution. We can't wait to hear what they have to teach us so we can go into our community and help teach others.
