This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Planting and recording data on their own plants can be a valuable and engaging activity for first graders. Not only does it provide a hands-on learning experience, but it also teaches valuable lessons about responsibility, observation, and data collection.

When first graders are given the opportunity to plant their own seeds or seedlings, they are able to actively participate in the growth process of a living organism.

This hands-on experience allows children to witness the different stages of plant growth, from seed to sprout to mature plant. It also teaches them the importance of caring for living things and the role that plants play in our environment.

In addition to planting their own plants, first graders can also be tasked with recording data on their plants' growth. This can involve measuring the height of the plant, counting the number of leaves or flowers, or recording any changes in the plant's appearance over time.

Furthermore, planting and recording data on their own plants can help first graders develop a sense of responsibility. By taking care of their plants and ensuring that they are properly watered and cared for, children can learn the importance of taking care of living things and following through on tasks. This sense of responsibility can help foster a strong work ethic and a sense of accomplishment in young children.
