Each day my students are given opportunities to learn through movement, inquiry, song, and play. One way to expand our learning even further is to integrate technology into our classroom.
My students are spunky first graders who have built a fun and caring classroom community.
We love playing games, reading, writing, and interacting with other classrooms via social media. Our school strives to meet the needs of each individual student and family through varied learning experiences, community support programs, and relationship building.
My Project
While we can provide a lot for our students, we are still working on making technology more available to students. It is my goal to find enough iPad minis to create a 1-to-1 learning environment. With these iPads, cases, and headphones, my students will be able to digitally record and share their learning through an educational portfolio. We will interact with other classrooms and communities through social media sites (such as Google Hangouts) and blogging. Learning will be differentiated through reading and math apps. I will be able to assess students as they record their reading, explain their thinking in math (through videos, pictures, and drawings), and edit their writing.
By providing each student with their own device, my first graders will be able to efficiently and quickly work on skills that would help them grow.
A variety of apps, websites, and intervention programs will be at their fingertips at any point in the school day. Paired with meaningful instruction and hands-on activities, my students will be able to extend their learning through project-based activities (such as developing a community service project).
