Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember the day you learned how to read? What an accomplishment it was to look past the pictures, decode the words, and actually read the story! We need help with this basic foundation that opens a world of learning.
The students in my classroom are English language learners, migrants, and children of military families.
They attend an overcrowded public school in a rural community in Arizona. Our district has a tight budget and is unable to fund basic classroom materials or instructional support. Our population is considered to be high poverty.
My Project
Being able to read well changes a life. It will change the lives of 30+ children in my classroom. Many of them come from homes where reading is not encouraged or supported. Being able to read a simple book, newspaper, sign, or a mere word will better their lives. When they can read well, they can graduate, get a job, and become valuable citizens of their community. This is the impact you will have on my students.
By funding the fundamentals of first grade, you are helping children open the door to a wonderful world of learning through the ability to read.
With the materials we receive, students will be able to practice basic phonics skills and practice reading fluently on a daily basis. The materials requested will also help the students in my classroom take on an independent approach to their learning environment and create a sense of ownership towards their education.
