Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching 20 bright-eyed students this year! My students are hardworking, curious, and kind. I feel so lucky to work with such a joyful group of children. Creating a classroom community where these kids can feel safe, happy, and confident is the backbone of my teaching practice.

My students face a lot of adversity in their lives.

They come from low income neighborhoods where many live in single parent households, have parents who have immigrated to the US, or are immigrants themselves. Despite these challenges, my students come to school everyday with big hearts and minds excited to learn.

My Project

I am very lucky to teach at a One-to-One school where my students are each provided an iPad. Students are able to develop 21st century skills and interact with technology daily thanks to this initiative.

As a school district, we use several different apps to ensure that instruction is rigorous and targeted to each students particular needs specifically in Math and Reading.

Each day students have a designated time to work on specific apps that are proven to create growth.

We ask for parents to buy their children headphones at the beginning of the year so students can work in a quieter environment. Many parents are not able to buy headphones for their kids or can only afford low quality headphones that break quickly in the hands of first graders. I would love to be able to provide my classes with high quality headphones for years to come! I know that being able to provide this resource to my students will allow them to focus and be more productive.
