I teach an amazing group of 25 first graders in rural Kentucky. My students enter the classroom each morning excited to see what new activities we have planned. The students love to try new activities and are always willing to give their best.
One hundred percent of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, and many of them only have access to technology at school. Despite these hardships, my students are eager to use technology, explore and be successful.
I am trying to build my classroom library by adding a new collection of fiction and nonfiction books. I recently cleaned out and organized my classroom library and realized that we are in need of more first grade level books.
Having a variety of book topics and reading levels is a great way to keep all students interested in reading.
I plan to use the new books in a variety of ways in the classroom. We will use the books for comprehension and accelerated reader testing. We will also use the books during literacy centers for writing and vocabulary practice.
