Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries from Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
Many of my students come to school hungry and tired on a daily basis.
This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school almost daily with very low energy. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright.
My Project
Being able to build, design, create and bringing your imagination into reality is something that my students will be able to do with this project. Giving that they live in a low income area and have suffered emotionally because of the trauma caused by hurricane Harvey, my students are in great need of engaging and meaningful activities.
With these art supplies, my students will be able to bring all their creativity into life.
They will be able to engage in design to build process in many different projects. With Goobi and UC Blocks, my students will be able to build structures such as buildings, pyramids, cars, motorcycles, robots, and anything they can think of. Goobi and UC Blocks will also help my students complete STEM activities in the classroom giving that they will be practicing engineering, math, science and technology through building many different structures in different sizes and shapes.With your help and these supplies, my students will be able to unleash their talents and creativity by creating amazing and beautiful projects.
