Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The first grade students of my classroom are full of questions and a love for learning! They care about both their individual progress and the growth of their peers. Our classroom of learners strive to be leaders and helpful members of their community.
As a first year teacher, I want to make sure all my students are supported in their learning and social emotional development.
My students are eager to immerse themselves in learning in ways where their voices are heard, they are able to relate to topics, and they are constantly being pushed to grow.
My Project
Reading is such a foundational skill in a child's academic journey. In order for this skill to be adopted into a child's life, they need to be immersed into a plethora of books. Children are deserving of having books at their level as well as books that interest them.
With this classroom library, my students will have access to books of various levels, that are relevant to their lives, and that support social emotional learning.
The leveled books will be used for students to select for independent reading. They will be able to choose books they enjoy that are at their current reading level. The individual books will be used for whole class read alouds. These books are focused on topics such as kindness, helping others, and appreciating all cultures and identities. All these books are great conversation starters about important ways we can contribute to our community.
