Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am always in admiration of the perseverance and grit I see in my students and their families. I am so lucky to arrive each day at a job I love, with smiling kids whose parents support and value education in the ways that they can.
My students deserve access to the same materials and opportunities that students in more affluent areas receive.
Our school is a Title I school, and most of my students participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. Many of our students are second language learners and struggle academically. Many of our students reside in homeless shelters and foster homes. Most of them also do not have books, technology, or art supplies at home.
My students and their families face many obstacles in their daily lives, and I strive to ensure my students have access to the same materials and opportunities kids in more affluent areas receive.
My goal each year is to create an eagerness, excitement, and high engagement around learning and help each of them build a genuine love of learning.
My Project
My students absolutely LOVE writing! They love writing in fun and creative ways in their writer's notebooks and then turning their imaginative ideas into a full-blown book!
There's nothing like having the magical moment when my first graders see their writing in the form of a real book (or as real as we can make it in a classroom)!
My students love creating stories and the electric staplers will enable them to finish their books independently! The plastic sleeves and laminating pouches will be special finishing touches to their newly created books and stories. With these supples, our classroom will turn into an imaginative, innovative publishing company!
