This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our senior students come from a low-income, first-generation community where much is constantly asked of them. Throughout their four years at this school, our students need to juggle the demands of attending school, obtaining a high academic performance, becoming involved in the school and community, caring for their siblings at home, and working part-time. They need to choose whether they will attend college or work full-time and provide for their family after graduating high school.

My students are motivational.

As the first in their families to go to college, my students experience detrimental emotions because of the burden of leaving their low-income families to pursue their career. I had a 4.0 GPA student come into my college center letting me know that they are afraid to attend college because their absence will affect their family's financial stability. Nonetheless, our students continue to persevere by looking for opportunities to succeed. My students have a chance at a brighter future, and I will help make that happen for them.

My Project

My project is focused on obtaining the resources that my students need to succeed in college. Unfortunately, many of our students are unable to purchase electronic materials that will help them efficiently complete their own projects. Low-income, first-generation students need to rely on their own income to purchase these necessities which only develops an additional adversity in their lives.

With these materials, my students can break down one more barrier and feel confident about graduating college.

The laptop will help a student take notes in their classroom, complete their written assignments at home, and download electronic books. The printers will help two students avoid taking trips to the library and limit the printing costs at their college campuses. With your donation, you can help these students focus and feel comfortable within their environment to complete their assignments. The laptop and printers will provide my students with the resources needed to be successful college students.
