This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Working in a high poverty elementary school may seem very challenging especially in the area of Math and Science. Our school consists of English as Second Learners, African Americans, Caucasians, Special Needs students as well as our critical thinking, gifted students. However, I truly believe that socioeconomics should not play a role in the lives of our students.
Despite the number of challenges, my goal is to spark students' interest in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
My Project
My students need four Amazon Kindle Fires and cases to utilize effective apps and programs that enhance their learning. Some of the apps and programs that are my students favorite are Google, Code.org, Kahoot, Clever, NearPod, Splashmath, Learning Farm, Plickers, Readworks.org, Mystery Science, and KhansAcademy.
My technology setup in the classroom consists of three desktops and 1 Laptop.
I have 22 students which means that only 5.5 students will be able to utilize technology daily, which is far less than the state requirement. I am always creating unique ways that my students can share and utilize technology. However, all assessments are now computerized. It takes four hours for all my students to complete their assessments. With additional technology I feel that my students will be able to increase their knowledge and test scores.
