This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do fireworks function? What does that have to do with light? These questions and more are what we hope to explore.

I am a 8th grade science teacher in a high needs area, low socio-economic status, with an extremely diverse area with multiple languages present.

As teachers with intense science backgrounds, we are hoping to develop curriculum and technology to assist our students in taking on the role of scientists. As budget cuts have hit our district, challenges of supplies continue.

My Project

We will be utilizing the spectrum tube set and chemicals to analyze how firework function and what these chemicals have to do with light. This includes experiments in biology and chemistry which need to be very controlled and specific in our observations.

You will make it possible for students in an urban school district to experience the use of scientific technology in activities such as genetic transformation, organic chemistry, and other, more challenging experiments they may not other wise be exposed to without access to such equipment.
