I have the honor of serving as the science teacher for 120 diverse 4th graders from Nashville. They are a brilliant, resilient, thoughtful, joyful bunch who keep me laughing every single day.
These kids love science.
I mean they really love it, and they let me know through their words and actions every day. I remember loving science when I was that young, too, and I want to ensure that that love never fades away, even when they're in their high school chemistry class, bewildered and flustered (or maybe that was just me).
My Project
Science and technology go hand in hand - everyone knows this. Scientists utilize technology in their work all the time, and it's imperative that my students know this and get the opportunity to do so as well, as we navigate through our units.
The addition of this class set of Amazon Fire tablets to our classroom will open up new, exciting opportunities for my students to engage with the science experiments we do in class.
They will allow students to gather data and observations in new ways through pictures or videos that could then be uploaded to sites like Seesaw for collaboration, sharing, and grading. They could be used to research our current units of study. They will allow students to complete assignments digitally via our Google Classroom. They could also be used for early finishers or as extension activities. The possibilities are endless!
Next school year, I will no longer have my own classroom space. I will be a traveling science teacher on a cart! This means that we need technology that can be easily transported from one space to another. I could easily organize these tablets on my cart to take with me from class to class as I teach each day. As of now, I have 10 Amazon Fire tablets; I am hoping to have a full class set of 25 by the end of the 2019-20 school year. Please help me make this wish a reality for the benefit of my amazing students!
