This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Immediate access to anything of interest has been the norm for my students. It is my burning desire to light their interest in Reading LITERATURE. The Kindles will allow my students to access literature in the medium with which my students are comfortable. Help me kindle the flames of learning.

My students do not love reading.

In fact, they don't even like it. They live in a world of cell phones, gaming, texting, and cable. If I can speak to them in their language (technology), I believe I can intrigue their minds with phenomenal literature that will open a new world which is also at their finger tips.

My Project

If granted these Kindles, my students will be given independent reading time. They will use the free books already online or their library cards to access the plethora of novels available at the touch of a button. Specific reading skills will be targeted with their personal reading selections but I will not cross the line and turn the joy of reading into a chore. The goal of this project is to inspire young adults to love literature and become lifelong readers.

Reading is a personal thrill that so many of my students have not realized.

In my experience, meeting students where they are in ability and interest is essential if my efforts at guiding them toward greener pastures are to take root. Kindle Fires bring literature to their world and will change these young lives for the Better.
