My Students
My first grade students are eager to learn to read and love to listen to reading. I work at a Title I school in Southwest Florida. Many of my students come to school with few supplies but that doesn’t diminish their passion for learning. My students come to school eager to learn new things and try their hardest every day.
As a teacher, I want to create an environment where children love to come and learn.
My first graders come from a community where families are working hard to provide the basic needs for their children. Our time together in the classroom helps provide a place where children feel safe and develop not only academic skills but also the social skills needed to live a productive life.
My Project
These Kindle Fire Tablets will be used as a station in my classroom. While the teacher is working with small groups, students are engaged in activities at various centers around the classroom including a computer center, read to self, read to someone, word work, and listen to reading. Currently, I have a listening center with a cassette tape and a cd player. The students are very unfamiliar with the tape and frequently need assistance to make it work. While the cd player is more familiar for some children, I do not have many books on cd.
The kindle fire tablets will give my students assess to numerous audio books as well as books they can read.
I'm excited about using the tablets for research projects and to practice first grade language and math skills. The possibilities are endless!
