Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.

My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.

I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!

The majority of the students at my school are English learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!

My Project

My students are eager readers! In order to encourage my students, I must first provide relatable and interesting reading options. In order to provide the best options, I took a class poll. Our favorite book suggestions are listed and I'm on a mission to provide them to my students! I have many (MANY) princess and animal books in my classroom, which are great! However, I have many (MANY) boys and girls who are looking for something else. So, this project will provide Star Wars, Pete the Cat, and Marvel Superhero books for my students. Books need to be interesting to keep kids engaged in them, and these books will be loved and cherished and read repeatedly!

School may be the only place some of my students have the opportunity to engage in activities that involve the most up-to-date technology, so I want to provide technology AND books to my students.

The Kindle Fire 7 provides many educational apps and games that will ignite an authentic enthusiasm for learning through technology. Using the Kindle Fire tablet during centers, my students will have differentiated access to materials that cover all curriculum areas: Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Writing.

I feel this project will support my students traditionally through books that they will be able to read independently. The books will range from pre-reader level through grade 2 level, so all levels of students will be supported. I also feel it will support them through technology, as there is so much we can do on the Kindle!

Thank you for reading my project! Thank you for supporting education!
