My Students

As a teacher in a Title I school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, each one of them come to school determined to leave those challenges at the door. They all know that education is vital for them to get out of the poverty cycle.

My students are creative, loving, and intelligent.

They like to learn new things, they love to read and they love doing class projects. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire each one of them to achieve academic excellence.

My Project

There are many different things that we could do in the classroom if we had a class set of Kindle Fire tablets. Having a Kindle Fire will allow me to get apps from the Amazon App store. Some examples of apps my students could use are 1) Sparkle Fish: Students can create books on their interest level and reading level. Teachers can customize lessons for their students and track student progress; 2) Brain Pop: Brain pop is an app that shows students engaging videos centered around current events and content. Brain pop also creates quizzes based on the videos that students watch; 3) IXL: IXL is an app where students can practice math facts and equations on their grade level. Reports are sent to teachers to track progress; 4) Spelling City: Spelling city is an app that allows students to practice their spelling words by playing interactive games and taking practice quizzes. In addition to apps, I can also create web quest projects and research projects on the Internet.

By donating to this project, you will ensure that my students have open access to technology every day at school.

You will be giving a fifth grade child an experience that they wouldn't have had before. My students will get to learn how to be fluent in technology, and I will be able to design more engaging and rigorous lessons.
